Steve Benger

Steve Benger – IFT Fellow 

Steve is an independent business recovery & growth expert, currently MD & Founder of Accelerus and Partner in Oxygen Partners. Accelerus was launched with a focus on helping businesses achieve significant improvement in their performance wherever they are in their business cycle. Accelerus operates a series of models and has access to a range of top quality resources to introduce into assignments in many sectors. In the period since the launch in September 2013 they have been involved in assisting in excess of 50 clients ranging from Ł2M to Ł1.2B turnover. Prior to launching Accelerus he was previously MD of Waverley The Beer Seller, and Owner of RFP Management Ltd – specialising in business leadership and recovery programmes, working closely with major advisory firms, lenders and owners. During his career he has also had significant international turnaround and business leadership experience.

He has been involved in multiple independent turnarounds, including CRO at WTBS - UK drinks wholeseller and CRO of a Ł200m t/0 Ł100m debt UK national steel stockholder/ distributor - introduced via the Bank to drive the re-structuring. He has NHS TD experience with multiple large size Hospital Trust and CCG's. In each case they had significant financial deficits and service delivery problems. Steve was introduced by the SHA/Board of Directors to drive each Trust’s Executive Team to deliver financial/service recovery plans and develop mid-term strategic sustainability options. In recent years he has become actively engaged within the UK Education sector and leads the IfT's Special Interest Group on this subject. He is in his second term as a Board Member and is the Board lead on all Special Interest Groups

As a parallel activity to Accelerus he is a founding partner in Oxygen Partners with Mark Andrews. Oxygen is focused on investing in businesses in 'event driven' situations. To date they have made 6 acquisitions

Steve holds a degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Glamorgan.
